Welcome to OffStage™. my column for bluegrass now magazine!

This column came about when I realized that nothing like it had ever really been done before. Most of the articles in my two favorite bluegrass magazines are about the musical aspects of a performer's life. But what about the other aspects?

What does Rhonda Vincent like to do in the rare moments she's not out on the road? What is Ricky Skaggs' favorite restaurant? What is the most unusual piece of furniture in the home of Tony Rice? As with almost everything else, I find that if I'm curious about something, chances are that readers will be, too.

No less a cool cat than Ron Thomason of Dry Branch Fire Squad actually took the time to write a very kind letter about this column. You can read his letter here.

Each installment of OffStage includes a photo or two from the personal scrapbooks of the musicians themselves, and sometimes even a favorite recipe! I hope you enjoy reading these articles as much as I have enjoyed writing them. And please let me know if there's somebody in particular you'd like to see profiled OffStage.
